FIGHTS AGAINS NPC'S

Beside fighting another player's character, there's another type of battle that your character may come across: NPC battles. These may occur within random events, but are more likely to happen when taking on quests. Everything you'll need to know about fighting NPC's will be stated below.

When fighting NPC's the dice system will be used. Rolls may vary depending on what kind of enemy you will be facing, but this will always be fully explained within the first staff post of the fight.

Fights will always have their own threads, to keep things clear and organised. Whenever an NPC encounter occurs within an on-going thread, the staff will post a link to the fighting thread within your existing thread. This thread will purely be used for the fight. After the fight is finished, players can always choose to go back to their previous thread to finish It after the fight, but this is totally up to player's preference.

While each fight will be different, each fighting thread will have the same structure, always starting with an introduction post by the staff and ending with a short summary by the staff. The structure of a fighting thread can be found below.

INTRODUCTION PHASE

Every fighting thread will start with an introduction post from the staff, which will include the following:

- The enemy you're facing and additional information about the enemy you'll need to know.
- A short introduction including the environment and some details about the enemy, mostly to set an atmosphere for the fight.
- A summary of the battle dice system that will be used, so that you won't have to look It up in the guidebook after each roll.

JOINING PHASE

After the enemy has been signaled, whether It's part of a quest or encountered within a random event, each character that will be fighting the enemy will have one post to react to this event/sighting before starting the actual fight. This will also be their chance to flee the thread. After engaging in the combat-phase of a thread your character will no longer be able to flee the battle without rolling for this action. After everyone has made their joining post, the staff will announce the beginning of the combat phase.

COMBAT PHASE

As soon as the combat phase starts, each player will write one post before the staff will reply with the enemy's actions. The order in which the players will post will be decided by the player's themselves, as long as It's consistent. Each player is allowed one post until the enemy NPC has responded again. So for example, having a fight with two player character's would go something like this: Player 1 post, Player 2 post, Staff post, Player 1 post, Player 2 post, Staff post, etc.

Each combat post has to meet each of these requirements in order for the battle to continue:

(Note: There's a code/template that you could to fill this in within THIS thread, which makes It a lot easier as you just have to paste this within every post and fill in the blanks accordingly. If you don't want to use this template that's fine, as long as everything contained within It will be present within your post.)

- A regular post (obviously), in which will be described how the character attacks the enemy.
- Your character's HP throughout the battle. Every character and enemy starts with 100/100 HP. For example: when the enemy strikes your character within their first attack post and decreases your health with 10HP,  your character's HP in your next post should be 90/100HP, and so on.
- The result of your attack roll. Rolling will be done within the discord server where everyone can see your rolls, so there's no use cheating. This should also include the enemy's current HP after your attack!

- Your character's health status. This will always start out with 'Healthy' at the beginning of each fight, unless your character goes into a fight wounded or weakened by whatever event happened within a previous thread or event. This will not be checked by the staff, however. We expect players to be realistic when It comes to this. Your character's status will switch to 'Weakened' as soon as your HP hits 50 or below.  This can also change when your character obtains a status condition given by the enemy, but the staff will always include this within the enemy's fighting post. These status conditions and how dangerous they are can vary between enemies, but will always be mentioned within the introduction post.

- A short summary. This can be one sentence at It's shortest and is just a very short summary of how your character attacked the enemy. For example: Name ran up to the enemy and stabbed them with their spear. Magic users will shorty describe the magical attack they've used.

ENDING PHASE

There are several ways for a battle to enter the ending phase:

Defeating the enemy: In order to defeat an enemy, It's HP must be downed all the way to 0. As soon as this happens, the party is victorious and may claim any rewards given.

Giving up after a flee: Sometimes enemies may flee in the midst of battle. When this happens, the party will often have a choice to either search for the enemy to finish them either way or to give up and take their loss. When searching for a fled enemy, each party member may perform one roll that will decide if the enemy will be found or not. When the enemy will be found, the battle will continue.

Party member K.O.: After a player hits 0HP,  this character will be considered passed out. Remaining party members may choose to continue the battle without said party member, or may choose to carry their party member to safety and flee the battle. In this case, you don't have to roll in order to flee. If the party members continue and the whole party passes out It means an instant loss, and sometimes worse..

We understand that the whole battle system may look somewhat intimidating to newcomers, but we want to remind you that It's ok to ask questions and even make mistakes! We won't bite. (: When something goes wrong in battle, the staff members will simply ask you to change It before the thread will continue.

For those who would like a more visual explanation of NPC battles, an example thread can be found HERE.

- wip (hoe lang je erover mag doen om te reageren en zo voor de fight 'vervalt' voor t geval een fight inactive raakt of zo idk)

DICE SYSTEM FOR BATTLE:

The dice system for battle will be slightly different from the dice system used for random events or encounters. Unlike action rolls, battle rolls may be done by the player themselves in the battle-rolls discord channel. Please remember to check out and read the pinned message within said channel first.

1 - Critical Fail: - 0HP
2 - 5 - Fail: - 0HP
6 - 10 - ???: - 5HP
10 - 15 - ???:  - 10HP
16 - 19 - Success: - 15HP
20 - Critical Success: - 20HP

RANDOM IDEAS
